Viv Corringham: voice & field recordings
Steve Barsotti: homemade instruments
Tari Nelson-Zagar: violin
British improvisational vocalist Viv Corringham uses a wide range of extended vocal techniques to not only interact with other musicians, but as a way of knowing and responding to particular places and situations. She is especially recognized for her recorded “walks,” in which she walks through the world listening and singing, traversing a particular terrain and responding to it vocally as she goes. This takes acoustic ecology’s idea of the “soundwalk” and transforms it from an essentially receptive experience into a participatory, performative event. Tonight she will perform with a non-vocal field recording of one of her favorite such walks (soundwalk karaoke?), as well as unaccompanied. She will also play a set of ad hoc trios with two of Seattle’s musical treasures, sound artist and instrument builder Steve Barsotti and the superb violinist Tari Nelson-Zagar.
